ASUA General Election Results
The ASUA Student Body President oversees the entire Associated Students of the University of Arizona.
- Serves as student lead, financial officer, and main spokesperson and advocate for students at the University of Arizona.
- Responsible for creating and executing student legislation and projects to benefit student welfare.
- Directly hires and manages a Presidential Cabinet, including positions like Chief of Staff, Policy Director, and Zona Zoo Executive Director.
- Oversees the Executive Vice President, Administrative Vice President, and the entire ASUA.
- Fills vacancies and manages connections with the ASUA Supreme Court.
- Creates a balanced budget for ASUA and ensures proper use of student funds according to university policies.
- Attends University of Arizona committee meetings to represent the student voice, or appoints officials to attend.
- Meets with university administration for advocacy and attends Arizona Board of Regents meetings.
- Oversees all advocacy efforts and maintains a presence at state and legislative levels.
- Holds all powers necessary for the proper functioning of the presidency.
The Executive Vice President (EVP) serves as the chief spokesperson and presiding officer of the Senate, overseeing its meetings and the inner workings of ASUA Clubs and the funding process. Key responsibilities include:
- Serves as the chief spokesperson of the Senate and presides over its meetings.
- Maintains the legislative and business records of ASUA.
- Assumes the duties of the President during their absence.
- Manages the ASUA Club Funding process as outlined in the ASUA Bylaws and ASUA Club Handbook.
- Appoints and oversees the Appropriations Board, ensuring its effective operation.
- Collaborates with the ASUA Appropriations team to allocate accurate financial funding to over 450 student clubs and organizations.
- Acts as the primary liaison between ASUA and student clubs, advocating for their needs and concerns.
- Coordinates major initiatives, including:
- The ASUA Club Fair.
- The ASUA Club Talent Show
- The ASUA Club Awards
- Organizes workshops, awards ceremonies, and special events to support and celebrate student organizations.
- Assists senators in achieving their initiatives and goals for each college.
- Promotes collaboration and engagement across the university to support the student community.
The Administrative Vice President (AVP) oversees and advocates for ASUA’s programs and services that support and empower students. Key responsibilities include:
- Advocates for a variety of ASUA programs and services, including:
- Feminists Organized to Resist, Create, and Empower (F.O.R.C.E.)
- Pride Alliance
- Students for Sustainability (S.F.S.)
- Safe Ride
- Student Health Advocacy Committee (S.H.A.C.)
- Bear Down Camp (B.D.C.)
- Campus Pantry
- Campus Closet
- University of Arizona Emergency Medical Services (U.A.E.M.S.)
- Wildcat Events Board (W.E.B.)
- ZonaZoo
- Works with support staff to select directors for each program/service at the start of their term.
- Hosts regular individual meetings with program/service directors to provide guidance and support.
- Organizes a biweekly Director's Council for collaboration and updates across all programs and services.
- Ensures clear communication and alignment between directors, fostering a collaborative environment.
- Works with the ASUA executive team to achieve campus-wide goals and initiatives.
- Oversees the ASUA Impact Series, which includes community projects, certifications, workshops, and skill-building opportunities.
- Serves as an ex-officio member of the Senate, acting as the liaison between the Senate and ASUA programs/services.
- Attends weekly Senate meetings to share updates on programs, advocate for support, and identify opportunities for Senate involvement (e.g., volunteering, financial support, or event promotion).
- Represents the student body on various committees, as appointed.
The nineteen ASUA Senators are elected to serve the student body and act as a representation of the student population to the rest of the University. Senators are responsible for being open to student suggestions and ideas, and formulating platforms and projects that can better the University as a whole. Senators are required to hold ten office hours every week, attend weekly meetings with fellow Senators, and sit on a variety of external committees. At weekly meetings, the Senate is given the task of providing reports and updates, and approving the funding allocations of the Appropriations Board. The Senate may be presented with funding requests, new suggestions from student groups, and other political issues upon which they have the responsibility to act. Each year, the student body elects 16 College Senators and 3 "At-Large" Senators. The 16 College Senate seats represent the following Colleges:
- College of Agriculture, Life, and Environmental Science
- College of Architecture, Planning & Landscape Architecture
- College of Education
- College of Engineering
- College of Fine Arts
- College of Humanities
- College of Nursing
- College of Science
- College of Social and Behavioral Sciences
- The Eller College of Management
- The James C. Wyant College of Optical Sciences
- The Mel & Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health
- The R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy
- The W.A. Franke Honors College
- College of Applied Sciences
- College of Health Sciences
To be considered eligible for the 2025 ASUA Elections students must adhere to Section 1 Article V Candidacy & Candidate Information in the 2024 ASUA Elections Code
Section 1 Candidate Requirements
- A student desiring to become a candidate will meet the requirements as set forth by this Code.
- A student desiring to become a candidate must be either an undergraduate student who has completed at least six (6) units or a graduate student who has completed at least three (3) units at the University of Arizona, in the semester prior to the election.
- In addition, undergraduate students desiring to become a candidate must currently be enrolled in at least six (6) units and graduate students desiring to become a candidate must currently be enrolled in at least three (3) units at the University of Arizona.
- A candidate must currently be in good academic standing as defined by the University of Arizona co-curricular eligibility requirements (3.0 minimum cumulative G.P.A. for undergraduate students running for an Executive position, 2.75 minimum cumulative G.P.A. for undergraduate students running for a Senatorial position, and 3.0 minimum cumulative G.P.A. for graduate students running for any position).
- A candidate is responsible for verifying their own academic status and must have the required units at the Candidate Form deadline.
- At the Candidate Form deadline, the Elections Commissioner will verify candidate eligibility and if at that time, a candidate is deemed not in compliance, the candidate will be deemed ineligible from the election process.
Section 6 Additional Documents
- To qualify as an official candidate, students will submit all additional documents as part of their Candidate registration packet as outlined below:
- To qualify as an official candidate, students will submit one (1), one-page letter of recommendation from a University of Arizona full-time professional staff/faculty member.
- To qualify as an official candidate, students will submit a one-page resume.
- To qualify as an official candidate, students will submit a platform statement summarizing who they are and why they are running for their respective position. This statement will be no longer than 500 words.
- Students who advance to the Mandatory Candidacy Meeting will receive a Declaration of Intent form. The student will sign and submit this form to confirm their commitment to running for this position, and qualify them as an official candidate.
