YES! If you are an incoming first year student, you are highly encouraged to attend camp! Keep in mind that camper spots fill up fast, so register as soon as possible!
BDC takes place Sunday, August 18, 2019 through Thursday, August 22, 2019. Camp begins with the Family Farewell Brunch on Sunday, followed by departure to Camp Monday morning. Camp activities Monday through Wednesday will take place. Buses return to campus on Wednesday afternoon and the fourth day is held on-campus.
BDC costs $150 during the Priority Registration period and $175 during the late registration period. This cost covers the entire 5 days, which includes transportation to and from the campsite, meals, camper t-shirts, and other camp-related activities.
*Please note that students living on-campus are encouraged to participate in Early Move-In which is an additional fee through Residence Life. This additional $165 fee is directed to the student’s Bursar account and charged by UA Housing & Residential Life, NOT Bear Down Camp.
Bear Down Camp will be held at a Triangle Y Ranch Camp in Oracle, Arizona. The campsite has running water, full facilities, and cabins...we will not be sleeping in tents and such.
If you are interested in learning about the University of Arizona in a more in-depth manner and want to meet people before the first day of classes, Bear Down Camp is the right place for you! BDC allows freshmen to create a family as well as connect them with upperclassmen who have the answers and advice to give you the advantage during your first year of college.
All campers will receive an email confirming their spot in the program in addition to any missing or incorrect information that we may need, but was not included upon initial registration. If you have registered for camp and have not received a confirmation email within 7 days, contact the administrative team immediately. Once registration has closed, weekly messages will go out to both campers and parents with information regarding moving in and getting ready for camp.
Gatos (“cats”) are Bear Down Camp counselors and Gatitos (“little cats”) are Bear Down Camp campers. Simple as that!
If you are participating in any UA Athletics team, the Pride of Arizona (band) or Greek Life (fraternity and sorority) Recruitment, you will not be able to attend camp due to conflicting schedules. If you will be participating in the SALT or ROTC program and interested in going to camp, please keep in mind that orientations and other programs obligations can typically be rescheduled or made up. If you have any specific questions or concerns, please contact us before registering.
If you have reached the “Thank you for registering” page and paid by credit card, your registration is complete! You should receive an email forwarding your registration information to you from Executive Director Izzie Jado. If you chose to pay by check, please mail it to ASUA as soon as possible. An e-mail confirmation will be sent within 7 days upon receipt.
REQUIRED ITEMS: Sleeping bag or twin bedding, blanket, pillow, t-shirts, shorts, and jeans, a white t-shirt, pajamas, light jacket and/or sweatshirt (it may rain, so please keep that in mind), sneakers or other closed-toed shoes, and socks (you are welcome to bring open-toed shoes, but we will be outside), flip flops or shower shoes, towel and wash cloth, toiletries, and UA SPIRIT!!.
OPTIONAL ITEMS: Water bottle, snacks, hat, umbrella, camera, sunscreen, flashlight, bug spray and/or stationery/reading material..
WHAT NOT TO BRING: Alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, paraphernalia, knives or weapons, fireworks,and items of great value.
Bear Down Camp and the campsite itself are not responsible for any damage to or loss of personal items while at camp..
Check in will be the morning of Sunday, August 18, 2019 prior to the Family Farewell Brunch. Detailed schedules will be sent to the e-mail or mailing address provided, put an outline of that day's schedule can be found under "family farewell brunch" in the "camper" tab at the top of this page. Campers can also move into the residence halls the day before this date. Please check with Housing & Residential Life for further instructions.
Once registered campers can log into the registration website and view their registration information. From here the camper can request a refund. Refunds will only be issued until July 23, 2019 at 4 pm MST, with written notice.
