About Us
Bear Down Camp is a four-day transitional experience designed to foster connection and build community among incoming freshmen and first-year students at the University of Arizona. Held annually the week before fall classes begin, the camp provides an opportunity for new students to form meaningful relationships and establish a strong support system as they transition to university life.
Guided by student counselors, participants engage in activities that encourage teamwork, friendship, and a sense of belonging. Through interactive sessions, students gain insight into the University of Arizona’s resources, including involvement opportunities, educational and health services, and on-campus support networks. They also explore the rich history and traditions of the university, creating a foundation of pride and connection to their new community.
Bear Down Camp is more than just a camp —it’s where first-year students build their first network of peers, mentors, and friends, setting the tone for a successful and fulfilling college journey.
Please email beardowncamp@arizona.edu with any questions.

Bear Down Camp offers a limited number of fee waivers for student campers with financial need. If awarded, students may receive either a full waiver ($260) or a partial waiver ($130), depending on financial need and the number of applicants.
To be considered, students must submit a completed waiver application by Friday, April 25, 2025, at 11:59 P.M. MST. Due to limited funding, submitting an application does not guarantee a waiver—only ten waivers will be awarded. Any remaining program costs not covered by the waiver are the student’s responsibility.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicants must complete the 2025-2026 FAFSA.
- Both the student and a parent/guardian must complete and sign the fee waiver application by the deadline.
- Fee waivers will only be granted to students who demonstrate financial need.
Important Notes:
- Completing this application does not register a student for Bear Down Camp.
- Students who receive a waiver will be automatically registered for camp.
- All other applicants must complete the standard camp registration process, which opens Sunday, May 4, 2025.
- This form will open Friday, March 21, 2025
