UAEMS

About Us

The University of Arizona Emergency Medical Services (UAEMS) serves the University of Arizona campus and its students, staff, and visitors. Operations currently run 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

UAEMS operations are based out of the Kaibab-Huachuca Residence Hall where our crews receive 9-1-1 call information from the City Communications Center. On scene we provide high quality emergency medical care at the EMT level until Tucson Fire Department arrives on scene to provide a higher level of care (ALS).

We respond primarily in an EMS equipped suburban and reserve multiple utility vehicles for special event response. The organization has members pursuing a variety of degree programs ranging from Physiology and Nutrition, to Education and Communications. All units that respond to medical emergencies on campus consist of Arizona Certified Emergency Medical Technicians.

Beyond our 911 services, University of Arizona EMS staffs many university and community events on the main campus and at the Arizona Health Sciences Center. When staffing standby events, all of our members go through specialty training provided by our own UAEMS Training Department. The in depth training ensures that our members are able to respond to calls safely and efficiently at all times, while being extensively trained in crowd maneuvering and events involving multiple patients. UAEMS holds continuing education courses and mock drills weekly to keep our members up to date and refreshed on current protocols.

We take pride in our organization.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at uems@email.arizona.edu

Our Mission

“To improve the health and well-being of the University of Arizona community by providing rapid and high quality emergency response services, and education on campus safety issues.”

Our members, advisers, and directors work hard to make this mission possible each and every day.

Our Goals

We strive to be the most professional, well trained, and effective emergency service

The University of Arizona Emergency Medical Services holds all of our members to the highest standards. We expect our members to represent themselves and our organization in the highest light. You can expect the finest young men and women to respond when you call for help and when you request us for service.

Our Operations

UAEMS currently responds to all medical 911 calls on campus, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, during the fall, winter and spring semesters. We also provide contract medical standby services at campus events and functions. Our 911 crews utilize an emergency response suburban and utility vehicle with at least two Arizona EMT-Basics for our standard response. We have the ability to staff mobile foot, utility cart, and stationary first aid tent teams for standby events, as well as provide up to three ICS/NIMS certified Incident Command personnel.

Community Education

As an agency serving the University of Arizona, we take pride in providing quality education for our members and the U of A community.

We believe that education is one of the most important aspects in developing our responders skills, and one of the best ways to connect with our community on a more personal level.

University of Arizona EMS has a close partnership with Sarver Heart Center at Banner University Medical Center and recommends their community education services. SHC works to provide free Continuous Chest Compression Only CPR training to groups that would like to know how to perform this life saving intervention, but who do not need a CPR certification card.

Standby Medical Services

Any time you have a group of people gathered for an event, show, or festival, odds of a medical emergency increase. UAEMS can provide EMS standby services for indoor or outdoor events of any size.

UAEMS standby teams are available within our service area any time of day or night all 365 days of the year. The level of care we provide depends on your needs as an event organizer. Whether you need a first aid tent, a single crew of 2 EMTs or a full medical team, UAEMS can send trained medical professionals who will be ready in the event of an emergency.
